Failure to Diagnose a Blood Clot Case
Just days after graduating from medical school in 2013, 26-year-old Pennsylvania resident Jennifer Sidari tragically died as a result of a fatal brain hemorrhage. Her parents, Peter and Patricia Sidari, subsequently filed a medical malpractice and wrongful death claim against treating physicians who failed to recognize signs of a blood clot that the plaintiffs argue was “easily diagnosable and treatable.”
Sidari was admitted to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on May 26, 2013, telling doctors that she had a history of headaches and easy bruising. Although Sidari’s symptoms, as well as blood tests, were consistent with the potential threat of internal bleeding, she spent 44 hours in the hospital’s care before neuroimaging tests were ordered. Sadly, the delayed diagnosis and treatment of Sidari’s blood clot left her vulnerable to a catastrophic brain hemorrhage, which ultimately led to her death.
In this case, failure to identify and treat a blood clot in a timely manner may have led to the untimely death of a young woman with a bright future.
